Long-renowned for not only its incredible local wine and produce, Orange NSW’s food scene is on a meteoric trajectory. The quality of dining to be found in the region is not just impressive for a country town, but anywhere.

Capitalising on its location within ‘Australia’s Food Basket’, menus all over town brim with local seasonal produce. Modern interpretations of rustic dishes can be found from popular hatted stalwarts that put Orange on the map, to up and-coming cafes with Nordic-styled interiors. Visitors will find something to suit their palate whether they are looking for chic shared plates in a small-bar atmosphere or beautiful, honest country cooking in a classic heritage homestead. Quality and style are on the menu in just about any Orange restaurant.

Head out to some of the fine dining establishments housed in Orange wineries, and gaze upon grapevine-lined valleys as you dine in rustic ambience. Expect to find top chefs utilising on site kitchen gardens and orchards of rare heirloom fruit - there is an emphasis on locally sourced ingredients.

Back in town though, it’s not all contemporary country fare. A new generation of restaurants has swept Orange, including upmarket Korean BBQ in a stylish fit out, wildly popular southern American barbecue, and a hip new Mexican taqueria with an inventive selection of tacos, tequila and craft cervezas.

Don’t miss some of Orange’s exceptional bakeries, serving up artisan breads, pastries and a near-iconic lemon meringue tart. And good coffee is the norm, pull up a seat at any number of stylish cafes and savour your perfectly-made piccolo as you soak up the country atmosphere.

On a glorious site, high above the bustling city and overlooking lush countryside, is Borrodell Vineyard, a country retreat amongst the grape vines - one of Australia's highest.

Borrodell Vineyard is nestled in the lee of Mount Canobolas on the slopes of the Towac Valley. It is an 84 acre vineyard, cherry, plum and heritage apple orchard and trufferie. Ten minutes from Orange and adjacent to Lake Canobolas, the rich volcanic soils and 1000 metre elevation ensures the best of cool climate wines and produce. The cellar door is open seven days for tasting the award-winning cool climate wines.

Accommodation available on the property includes two self-contained cottages set amongst the vineyard and the orchard, and two exclusive eco-suites designed for couples.

Sister’s Rock Restaurant is located at the top of Borrodell Vineyard, overlooking the Pinot Noir block.

Head Chef Richard Learmonth leads the Sister’s Rock Restaurant team. His passion for Borrodell’s local produce features in his menu, showcasing all the in-season delights from the orchard and surrounds. Their philosophy of food has developed around a love of the variety of produce grown on the estate and what’s available in regional Australia. Come and try his delicious cuisine for yourself.
