Orange Winter Jazz Festival Announce Fresh Batch of Artists

Preparations for the inaugural Orange Winter Jazz Festival are well under way with a fresh batch of artists being announced. Set to reignite souls and heat up dance floors, the extended festival line-up features both local and internationally renowned jazz acts as well as blues, rock, folk and country musicians including ensembles, bands and solo artists.

Featured in the second release line-up, Central West jazz stars Pengopuss and Into the Blue Jazz Trio promises to swing Orange, while Bathurst-based singer/songwriter Andy Nelson’s stirring lyrics and lavish tapestry of sound represent some of the local talent on display.

From further afield, the sway of Aloha No’s ukulele and steel pedal guitar captures the soul of Hawaii while festival favourite, Queen Porter Stomp, will conjure late-night swampy prohibition blues. The global sounds of Visions of Nar offer audiences a kaleidoscopic ride through Armenian folk music and contemporary jazz.

Fresh from the stages of WOMAD, legendary guitarist Ed Keupper (The Saints, The Laughing Clowns) joins Alister Spence (The Laughing Clowns, Sunnyboys) and Lloyd Swanton (The Necks) in Asteroid Ekosystem.

For jazz aficionados, the second release of artists has no shortage of award-winning acts. Pianist Mark Isaacs and saxophonist Loretta Palmeiro perform their immersive duo which earned them the 2021 APRA Art Music Award for Best Jazz Performance. 2021 Freedman Jazz Fellow and recipient of the ABC Jazz Scholarship, guitarist Hilary Geddes will premiere her new collection of music Parkside. Luminary trumpeter Phil Slater’s Dark Pattern will feature alongside ARIA Award winning artists Sandy Evans, Wanderlust and Andrea Keller. These acts will be in good company joining first-release artists Vince Jones, Emma Pask, Ray Beadle, Mahalia Barnes, Mike Nock and The catholics.

The Orange Winter Jazz Festival will also feature bands from the Central West with an un-ticketed stage for local musicians at the Royal Hotel across the festival weekend.

The region’s best export is the perfect partner for jazz and the Festival is proud to announce a  new sponsorship with local Orange winery Philip Shaw Wine. Philip Shaw is the fourth local business to sponsor the festival along with Orange Credit Union, Inland Digital and Lander's Music. Further sponsorship opportunities are available.

With a plethora of music that offers something for everyone, the June long weekend in Orange will be the perfect wintery backdrop to experience live, soul-reviving jazz music. Early Bird tickets are available now with the public encouraged to secure theirs quickly before the price increases on April 4th. Early Bird pricing is $125, granting access to over 50 artists across 8 fantastic venues. Single tickets are also available to Vince Jones on June 10th and Celebration of Swing on June 11th.
