Orange Chamber Music Festival Back for 2022

Featuring established Australian ensembles, domestic and local artists across a variety of regional venues.

Once again, the Orange region is readying to host the second annual Orange Chamber Music Festival, scheduled for April 28th – May 1st. The Orange Chamber Music Festival will feature established Australian ensembles, domestic and local artists across a variety of regional venues, ranging from the concert stage to the region’s cellar doors and hatted restaurants.

Festival Director Carmen Nieves commented “We look forward to welcoming back audiences to Orange in 2022. We are excited to showcase our city with a great range of concerts and shows, community events, art and heritage displays, with an outstanding line-up of artists from all over Australia.”

Gold and Platinum Festival Passes are on sale now with single event tickets available from the 30th November 2021. Highlights include:

Bliss of Heaven, Music of Latin America – Daniel Rojas + Apex Strings (April 29th) at Orange Function Centre
Irresistible rhythms and a melting pot of melodies, Chilean-born pianist and composer Daniel Rojas reimagines some of Latin America’s best-loved tunes and tangos in music from his new album for Da Vinci Classics, ‘BLISS OF HEAVEN: Music of the New World’. A heavenly alchemy of mambo, salsa and Andean folk music fused with classical sensibilities – supported by the high-energy Ensemble Apex String Quartet. This cabaret style event will be on sale from November 30th, 2021

Fantasie – Emily Granger and Rachel Kwa (April 29th) at Canobolas Dance Hall
Violinist and Orange-born Rachael Kwa is joined by American harpist Emily Granger in a delightful morning of music. Including Piazzola's fiery musical journey through the history of the tango and opera's intermezzo Meditation from Thais. Recital concludes with a profound finale of Saint Saens virtuosic Fantasie. This event is exclusive to Platinum and Gold Pass Holders.

Imaginations – Acacia Quartet (April 29th) at the Orange Uniting Church
Internationally renowned Acacia Quartet have been delighting audiences both in Australia and abroad for 12 years. In this unique concert, hear the dynamic virtuosity of the unified forces of Matt Withers & Acacia Quartet in this dazzling collaboration. The Imaginations repertoire will transport you through colours and textures as the art-inspired music conjures imagery depicting landscapes and seascapes from treetops and deserts to rivers and oceans. Cultured- (April 30th) Orange Cultural Precinct
Cultured is a new initiative designed to connect all the relevant arts institutions of Orange in an accessible community event, featuring local artists and world class performances free to the community.

The ORC Chamber Academy represents the beginning of many young musician’s journeys through the world of chamber music. Nearly a dozen of Orange’s best and brightest school-age musicians come together to form the Chamber Academy, exploring the powerful connections that the intricacies of chamber music provides. Other activities will showcase Australian ensembles and soloists, with interactive art and heritage exhibitions, hosted by the Orange Regional Museum and the Orange Regional Gallery. These events are free and accessible for all ages.
 

Anything You Can Do – Nexas Quartet, Peter Coleman-Wright AO and Cheryl Barker AO with Daniel Rojas and Michael Kluger. April 30th Orange Civic Theatre.
After their popular show Tango de Saxos at the inaugural 2021 Festival, Nexas Quartet will return in 2022 with another eclectic program, this time with internationally acclaimed opera singers Peter Coleman-Wright and Cheryl Barker.
Anything you can Do takes you on a journey through the streets of Paris with the resonating songs of Edith Piaf, Erik Satie, and Francis Poulenc to the vibrant musical scene on London’s West End to hear the genius of forgotten heroes Ivor Novello, Noel Coward and Julian Slade. Hop on a ship across the Atlantic and indulge in the influence of jazz in the light-music world with Broadway classics by Porter, Gershwin, Rodgers, Hart and Hammerstein.

Memories and Dreaming - Gala Dinner at TONIC restaurant feat. Matt Withers and David Shaw (May 1st)
Take a journey back in time and around the globe with this gorgeous collection of flute & guitar solos and duos. With stories of the Dreamtime and memories of places far away, this program will excite and move you with beautiful melodies and rapturous rhythms. With three sets spread out over the evening. This event is exclusive to Platinum Pass Holders.

The featured artists on the OCMF 2022 Program are:

Matt Withers- Australian Guitarist is an ambassador for Australian music, a well-established classical guitar pedagogue, performer, and role model for musicians across the country. His career to date has seen him perform with highly esteemed artists of the likes of William Barton, Sally Whitwell, Acacia Quartet, many national orchestras as well as maintaining strong commitments in the leading Australian chamber music group Guitar Trek alongside Timothy Kain.

David Shaw is a multi-instrumentalist, specialising in flute and piano. He has extensive experience in many genres of music, from performing, arranging, and teaching. As an orchestral musician, David has performed casually with several state orchestras in Australia, including Canberra Symphony Orchestra and Orchestra Victoria, and in conjunction with the Australian National Academy of Music with Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra. As a soloist, David has performed predominantly flute both for and with many highly regarded international artists. Australian National Academy of Music asked David back in 2016 to perform WA Mozart’s flute concerto in G major, under the baton of Ilych Rivas, a highlight of his solo career to date.

Daniel Rojas is a Chilean-born Australian concert pianist and highly acclaimed composer specialising in the rich and vibrant Latin American musical aesthetic. In his performances, classical works by Spanish and South American composers are presented alongside music from diverse indigenous, folk and popular traditions, as well as his own compositions and exhilarating off-the-cuff improvisations. Rojas’ well-known warmth and entertaining manner combined with his pianistic prowess and compositional skills create a truly unique and memorable concert experience for his audiences.

Emily Granger ‘is Chicago’s great loss and our great gain… since coming here (she) has firmly established herself as an outstanding addition to the Australian concert scene’ - Sydney Arts Guide (2019). Emily Granger (USA) has firmly established herself in the Australian concert scene, with a busy schedule as a soloist and chamber musician, in partnership with some of the country’s finest musicians (both classical and popular) and presenters. As an orchestral harpist, Emily has performed around the world as Guest Principal with the Chicago, Sydney, and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Orchestra Victoria, and Opera Australia Orchestra.
