Evening: Organise a taxi to take you to Lucetta Dining for dinner, a much loved local favourite for authentic Italian in the heart of Orange’s CBD.Think warm hospitality, seasonal regional produce and plates made for lingering. Start with something to share (house-made pasta or focaccia), then follow your nose to a classic main like the 500g Grainfed Sirloin Tagliatta, mixed herb salmoriglio, pecorino pepato, alongside a glass of local cool-climate Chalou Pinot Noir. Finish with dessert (tiramisu, of course), then taxi back to Basalt.

Day Two: Boutique Retail and Culture
Morning: Start the day at Byng Street Café, a much-loved local favourite known for quality coffee and seasonal menu. Bustling and bright, it is a must-stop for coffee connoisseurs. From here, take a relaxed wander through Orange’s town centre boutiques. Stop by Jumbled for vibrant homewares, Dirty Janes for vintage finds and antiques, then Cint for contemporary fashion. All within walking distance, making it easy to browse and soak up the town’s relaxed vibe.
Late morning: Wander over to the Orange Regional Art Gallery and Orange Regional Museum, both nestled in the heart of town and perfect for exploring together. The gallery’s ever-changing contemporary exhibitions offer a creative spark, while the museum paints a vivid picture of the region’s history. Stop into the Orange Visitor Information Centre to pick up local produce or a unique regional gift, something to remember Orange by.
Lunch: Pause for a long lunch under the magnolia tree at the Union Bank, set in one of Orange’s grand heritage buildings. The kitchen showcases polished, seasonal dishes built around local produce, ideal for sharing paired with a glass of Organic See Saw Fulcra Chardonnay or a local craft beer. Locals love to debate one important question: are you team potato scallop or team croquette?
Late afternoon: Take a leisurely stroll through Cook Park , a beloved Orange landmark dating back to the late 1800s and steeped in the town’s heritage. Discover the Park Guildry, a true local gem where you will find crafted items by area artisans alongside delicious homemade treats like scones, caramel slice, fruitcakes and more. The charming Rotunda in the centre of the park was originally built as a bandstand and gathering space. Wander the historic arboretum and step inside the glasshouse, where the begonia displays are nothing short of spectacular when in season. Altogether, this grand old town park invites you to appreciate its special place in Orange’s story.
Evening: Wrap up the day with dinner at Rowlee Dining, set among the vines at Rowlee Wines just outside Orange. Expect seasonal, share-style plates that hero local produce, paired with their cool-climate wines (a highlight is their aromatic Arneis). Rowlee Dining combines generous country hospitality and sweeping vineyard views, perfect for settling in as golden hour slips into an evening buzz. Afterwards, head to Washingtons for a signature cocktail and soak up Orange’s live music scene. The taxi rank is a short 50-metre walk for your ride back to Basalt.

Day Three: Cycling, Orchards & Country
Breakfast: Begin the day at Basalt with a relaxed continental breakfast. Locally sourced Fourjay Farms Hazelnut Muesli, with sourdough, local jam and honey enjoyed in the calm of your studio with expansive country views. Later, head into town and stop by Anything Grows for coffee. A cosy spot that’s both a café and a nursery, where you can shop for gourmet treats and grab an expertly made coffee to start your day.
Mid morning: Velo Edge Tours will bring your bikes right to you, making it a breeze to start your mountain biking adventure. With over 30km of singletrack near Orange, there is a trail for everyone, whether you are just starting out or a seasoned rider. If mountain biking isn’t your thing and you’d rather go for a more relaxed ride, check out Ride Orange for mapped cycle paths around Orange NSW. Choose an easy loop through town parks and wetlands or venture further out into the picturesque countryside.
Lunch: After your ride, drop into Hillside Harvest and wander through the orchard to pick new-season apples, straight from the tree, crisp, fragrant and as fresh as it gets. Give yourself a little time to browse the farm gate goodies, then settle in at the café for a relaxed lunch (think seasonal, locally sourced flavours) before heading back out for the afternoon’s adventure.
Afternoon: Take a scenic drive up to Gaanha-bula (Mount Canobolas) and let the landscape open right up - cool, crisp air, towering forest and those sweeping 360 lookout views across the Central Tablelands. Join your hosts from Three Rivers Cultural Tours to experience the mountain through a Wiradjuri lens, with guided storytelling, cultural insight and a deeper understanding of Country and the seasons that shape it. Leave a little extra time to pause at the top and enjoy the quiet power of this place.
Evening: Back at Basalt, rest your weary legs after the day’s ride and ease into a slow, fireside night. Your accommodation dinner is prepared fresh by acclaimed local chef Michael Manners, paired with your choice of a premium Orange wine to match. Day Four: Early Morning Hike, Coffee & Farewell
Early Morning (optional): If you’re up before dawn, slip out for sunrise at The Pinnacle Walk and Lookout, just up the road from Basalt. It’s short and satisfying (around 600m return; allow 30–45 minutes), with a brief, stepped climb that rewards you quickly. From the lookout, take in wide views over the Towac Valley, nearby vineyards and the gently rolling countryside at the foot of Gaanha-bula (Mount Canobolas) as the first light spills across the hills.
Morning: After an early rise or a well-earned sleep in, settle into a leisurely continental breakfast at Basalt. Fresh, generous and uncomplicated, it’s the perfect way to savour your final morning: coffee in hand, seasonal fruit on the table and wide-open views beyond the glass.
Mid morning: Drop into renowned local artist Sophie Cork’s Studio for a private viewing. Sophie’s works are brightly coloured, nostalgic and playful. They feel like a joyful Aussie time capsule. Give yourself 30–45 minutes to slow down, see what’s on the walls (and what might be taking shape on the workbench) and choose a favourite to post home to remember your tip to Orange.
Late morning: Before you say goodbye to the Orange Region, detour through the gold rush village of Lucknow for a little country treasure hunt. Pop into the Lucknow Skin Shop and Boot Barn to pick up a great pair of boots or a hat, something you’ll keep reaching for long after the trip is over. Then wander across the road to Lucknow’s Larder and Home for a final coffee and lunch, one last slow moment before you head back to the Orange Regional Airport for your 1:45pm Rex flight to Sydney.
