Other Ways to the West - Take the Scenic Route

Other Ways to the West.

While there’s a detour in place on the Great Western Highway at Victoria Pass, there are still plenty of easy and scenic ways to reach the Central West. And for many travellers, these alternative routes offer a chance to slow down, enjoy the journey and discover something new along the way.

Turning the Journey into Part of the Experience

Some of the key alternative routes include:

  • Bells Line of Road and the Darling Causeway, offering breathtaking ridgetop views and a relaxed drive into the Central West

  • The Golden Highway, ideal for travellers coming from the north

  • The Hume Highway, providing access for visitors travelling from Canberra and Sydney’s southwest

All roads still lead west - just with a few new stories along the way.

A Perfect Time to Visit

Autumn is one of the most beautiful times of year in the Central West, and especially around the Orange Region. Cooler days, golden landscapes and a packed calendar of events make it an ideal season to explore.

From food and wine experiences and stunning autumn gardens to festivals, cultural attractions and regional events across Orange, Bathurst, Oberon, Parkes and beyond, there’s no shortage of reasons to visit, and to stay a little longer.

Easy to Travel by Train, Bus or Plane

For those who prefer not to drive, it’s worth noting that train, bus and flight services are unaffected, with Transport for NSW adding extra services during the peak travel period.

Ready to Plan Your Trip?

Whether you’re heading to  Orange for a weekend away, exploring neighbouring towns or planning a longer regional escape, there are plenty of ways to get here - and just as many reasons to come.
