Checking the weather...

Tucked among rolling, vine-covered hills, outback paddocks and winding country lanes, lies Orange NSW wine country. Home to more than 60 vineyards and 40 cellar doors, discover a lacework of wine trails leading to an impressive range of wineries and vineyards, each with their own unique charms.

A range of first-class cellar door experiences await. Find beautifully restored historic buildings such as century-old bluestone stables and barns, repurposed to house rustic cellar doors. Gaze upon the picturesque Towac Valley from one of the highest altitude vineyards in Australia, or take the children along to discover a delightful petting zoo as you taste wines at one of the most photogenic cellar doors in the region.

Orange wine tours are also a great option for your gastronomic and vinous journey. Have a local winemaker give you a behind-the-scenes look at what goes on behind cellar doors or for a completely immersive experience, let a boutique tour operator create you a bespoke itinerary.

Visitors won’t want to miss dining at a number of truly exceptional vineyard restaurants, or simply graze from generous platters of local produce between tastings.

Be sure to check what events may be on during your stay. There are many events at Orange wineries held throughout the year, both as part of the highly popular Orange Wine Festival but also held independently. Try a class at an on-site boutique cookery school, or a more opulent experience such as a mid-winter truffle hunt followed by a black-tie degustation feast.

Moody’s Wines is the smallest vineyard and cellar door in Orange with the warmest welcome. Their Shiraz is a good example of cool climate Shiraz, with fruit flavours and two vintages can be sampled. Their Sauvignon Blanc has won awards and been well rated with James Halliday.
In 2018 the Shiraz was made into Rose - 'Cocky Rose', and it has won Bronze medals at the 2018 Orange and Bathurst wine shows. The latest product is 'Vin d'Orange', a rich orange flavoured fortified rose wine, made to an old Provençal recipe. The cellar door is on the vineyard and you can taste the range of red, white, rose and orange, talk about wine growing at 900 metres, and four generations of the Moody family in the wine business.

Besides an interesting collection of African artefacts to look at and play with, Hannah the cellar door Jack Russell, is always happy to greet guests. Although guaranteed open on weekends and public holidays, Moody's can be visited on other days if you phone and ask.
