Meet the Musician: Emily Granger - Harpist

Orange Chamber Music Festival

Emily Granger ‘is Chicago’s great loss and our great gain… since coming here (she) has firmly established herself as an outstanding addition to the Australian concert scene’ - Sydney Arts Guide (2019)

Emily Granger (USA) has firmly established herself in the Australian concert scene, with a busy schedule as a soloist and chamber musician, in partnership with some of the country’s finest musicians (both classical and popular) and presenters. As an orchestral harpist, Emily has performed around the world as Guest Principal with the Chicago, Sydney, and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Orchestra Victoria, and Opera Australia Orchestra.

In 2020, Emily was scheduled (pre-COVID-19) to appear with Omega Ensemble as the resident harpist for recitals at the Sydney Opera House and Melbourne Recital Centre, and debut with the Orange Chamber Music Festival, Four Winds Easter Festival, and Glebe Music Festival, as well as a tour with Chicago Symphony Orchestra flutist, Emma Gerstein. Instead, she’s focused her time performing online concerts for the Melbourne Digital Concert Hall and Phoenix Central Park, recording her debut solo album, and residencies at the Bundanon Trust and Mt. Wilson Old School.

Emily has performed at the Sydney, Ravinia, Craven Creek, Bellingen, Ear Taxi, and Lyon & Healy 150th Birthday Festivals. She has performed with Yo-Yo Ma, Renée Fleming, Janelle Monáe, Hugh Jackman, Sarah Blasko, International Chamber Artists, Flinders Quartet, and Nexas Saxophone Quartet and has performed recitals at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall and the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage.

As an avid hiker, Emily has walked the 3,000 kilometer Te Araroa across New Zealand, 900 kilometers across Spain on the Camino de Santiago, as well as California's 400 kilometer John Muir Trail.
