Canobolas Wines is one of the oldest vineyards and a significant producer of premium wine in the Orange region. Established by the Smith family in 1986, the site was carefully selected for its ideal combination of climate, soil and aspect to be able to create great wine. The vineyard sits at an elevation of 820 metres on a north-facing slope with rich soil and excellent air drainage. It's primarily planted with Chardonnay, Gamay, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The luxury cellar door offers a breathtaking space to enjoy award-winning wines and take in sweeping vineyard views. Private tours of the wine cellar and barrel room are available to Canobolas wine club members; as is access to some rare iconic museum wines.
The taste, quality, and precision in the expression of terroir is the driving inspiration behind the wines. Vines are dry-grown, gaining strength from the free-draining clay loam derived from basalt soils. In 2021, the Mattick family became custodians of Canobolas Wines, bringing a holistic, minimal-intervention approach in both vineyard and winery, allowing the wines to express nuance of site and fruit purity. The resulting wines are those of power and grace, the Chardonnay is a firm standout and has one numerous awards.
