Though long-known for its excellent local produce, cool-climate wines and fine dining restaurants, the gastronomic scene in Orange NSW has exploded in recent years cementing its status as one of Australia’s most prominent and sophisticated food and wine destinations.

Known as ‘Australia’s Food Basket’, the region is a haven of vineyard-dotted hills and abundant stonefruit and orchards. The combination of high altitude, a cool climate and rich volcanic soil create prime conditions for growing grapes, cherries, peaches, plums, apples, figs, quinces, truffles and so much more.

The district’s unique viticulture produces fine cool-climate wines, which visitors will begin to recognise as they taste their way through the region’s many cellar doors.

Not only can visitors buy direct from growers at local farmgates and cellar doors, the fortnightly Orange Farmers Market makes the perfect place to sample the flavours of the region. Grab a coffee and hearty bacon and egg roll and soak up the atmosphere of this wonderful community event.

The town celebrates its diverse food and wine scene with numerous festivals throughout the year attracting visitors from across Australia, but none more popular than long-running Orange F.O.O.D Week. This ten-day autumnal feast features events such as a progressive eight-course degustation through the regions most scenic vistas. Similarly Orange Wine Festival is another highlight. Over two weeks in October the community unites to celebrate its unique viticulture and thriving wine industry with a packed program of inspired experiences and events.

For a thoroughly hands-on experience with the region’s local produce a number of cooking classes are available. Using local fare, learn to prepare delicious dishes from some of Australia’s top chefs and local producers. Or simply visit one of the many excellent cafes and restaurants in the region, which pride themselves on menus packed with local produce.

Rowlee Wines

Rowlee Cellar Door is nestled amongst the vines on the verdant foothills of Mt Canobolas, 950 metres above sea level – exposed to the cool climate and unique topography of the Orange Wine Region.

Colmar Estate

Colmar Estate is nestled in the highlands of Orange – one of the most picturesque parts of the region. At an elevation of 980 metres their vineyard enjoys a cool, continental climate that produces elegant Pinot Noir red wines and white wines with rare purity, elegance and flavour.

De Salis Wines

De Salis' cellar door is open seven days per week (closed Christmas and Boxing Day) from 11am till 5pm. With an 180 degree vista over the valley below.

Heifer Station Wines

Bloodwood Estate

The first wine grapes in the Orange district were planted on Bloodwood in the spring of 1983. Since then, Bloodwood has enjoyed continuing critical and wine show success.

Bonny Glen Fruits

Bonny Glen Fruits are growers, packers and shippers of apples and cherries. The orchards are located at Nashdale and Towac Valley. The apple packhouse located on the 'Caernarvon' Orchard (Canoblas Road) operates five days per week from 7.30am until 4pm from March to November.

Brangayne of Orange Wines

Established in 1994, Brangayne is located at 970 metres altitude, on the slopes of Mount Canobolas. Known for its Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir as well as its signature Tristan (cabernet, shiraz, merlot) and Isolde Reserve Chardonnay, the range also includes Pinot Grigio and Riesling.

Byng Street Local Store

Byng Street Local Store is on the corner of Byng and Clinton Streets, Orange. Serving delicious AllPress Coffee, T2 Teas and an extensive menus featuring local produce across breakfast, lunch, dinner and brunch on the weekends.

Canobolas Smith Winery

Cargo Road Wines

The vineyard is one of the oldest in the region, established in 1983 on Cargo Road, west of Orange. The varieties grown are Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Barbera, Zinfandel, Nebbiolo, Gewürztraminer, Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling.

Charred Kitchen and Bar

Chateau du Chocolat

They have a beautiful seating area inside that accommodates 22 people. Outside, they have 10 seats on the footpath. They have facilities for young chocolate lovers too, with two highchairs available.

Faisan Estate Wines

Faisan Estate is a small vineyard and winery located near Mount Canobolas, 20 kilometres west of the City of Orange. Varieties produced at Faisan Estate include Semillon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz.

Greentrees Gourmet Preserves

Farm Gate for jams, jellies, marmalades, condiments, butters and pastes made from locally grown fruit and handmade at Greentrees into fine quality, value-added products. Also made here are rich fruit cakes, plum puddings, apple products and scones.

Groundstone

Nestled in the Orange Regional Museum Precinct, Groundstone is the central hub for fresh, seasonal, local meals. Including coffee, breakfast and lunch daily as well as stocking local shelf staples. Their kitchen and food prep areas close one hour before closing time.

Habitat Vineyard

Nestled high on Mount Canobolas in the Nashdale area, Habitat Vineyard produces Pinot Noir, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris. Your hosts Marko and Clare invite you to taste their hand crafted wines and seasonal produce.

Hillside Harvest

Situated just 10 kilometres from Orange this family owned and operated orchard offers a unique country experience for all. Pick your own fruit (cherries, berries, apricots, peaches, plums, nectarines and various varieties of apples) available during the months of summer and autumn.

Huntley Berry Farm

Huntley Berry Farm is situated in the basalt plains of Mount Canobolas where you can arm yourself with a bucket and pick your own berry produce with over eleven berry varieties available throughout the berry season (mid November to May).

Kate Jones at One Nineteen

They have a reputation for great catering of functions and events. They still do amazing catering but now they also have the fantastic cafe and soon restaurant. Their menus cater for all, with traditional favourites through to modern flavour extravaganzas and everything in between.

Koomooloo Wines

Philip Shaw Wines are sourced entirely from Shaw's 47 hectare Koomooloo Vineyard. Purchased in 1988 and planted in 1989 on red loam over limestone, this cool climate vineyard rises to an altitude of 900 metres (2,950 feet).

Mayfield Vineyard Cellar Door

Monument Vineyard

Mortimers of Orange

The vineyard is named after a quiet street in the rural Humberside village of Burton Pidsea in the United Kingdom. The original street sign is "on loan" and adorns the entrance to Chestnut Garth Vineyard.

Established on the picturesque foothills of Mount Canobolas in Borenore just outside of Orange, Small Acres Cyder was one of the first producers of traditional cider in Australia.
